Marcelle Lopez

Marcelle G. M. Lopes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. She graduated in Electronics Engineering (2018) in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and received the MSc (2020) in Biomedical Engineering in such University. She was in the Biomedical Engineering Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, from 2013 to 2020.

Reason for joining

At EVIDENCE's program, her project is based on previous research conducted by the University of Saarland group. Such researches deal with the classification of red blood cells according to their shapes, and the main steps of the research are:

  • preparation and acquisition of microcopy of cellular data
  • treatment of cellular data for inclusion in an artificial neural network
  • implementation and application of the artificial neural network for classification

In this regard, her project will focus on adding new forms for the fixation of red blood cells (RBC) through light, on optimizing the modeling algorithm of the red blood cell membrane so that it is correctly measured and its 3D model and on improving the routines implemented in the development of the neural network.

Updates

Being part of a multidisciplinary and international environment like the one offered by the Evidence project is a great challenge, but it is a unique and extremely enriching experience! I am an engineer by education and my contribution to the project demands much broader knowledge than what is offered in the engineering course. The evidence gives me daily contact with professionals from other areas, which contributes immensely in my learning, not only theoretical, but also practical in the day-by-day of the laboratory.

Besides, the possibility of being inserted at the same time in the academic life, dealing with experiments and writing scientific papers, and in a company managing projects, gives me the knowledge, the tools and the necessary information to decide which path to follow in my career.
